SERIES SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

SUBMISSIONS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Do you have what it takes to join the ranks of the best and darkest Australian short stories authors? ADFH alumni include Terry Dowling, Stephen Dedman, Robert Hood, Richard Harland, Margo Lanagan, Martin Livings, Kaaron Warren, Nathan Burrage, Josephine Pennicott, Shane Jiraiya Cummings, Lee Battersby, Chris Lawson, Dirk Flinthart, Jason Nahrung, Trent Jamieson, Jay Caselberg, and more! 

Australian Dark Fantasy & Horror is a 'year's best' anthology series of short stories and essays. Your work is eligible for consideration if:

  • You are a citizen or resident of Australia, New Zealand, or the Oceania region;

  • Your story was published in English in print form (in magazines, anthologies, on a website, etc) - anywhere in the world - between 1 January and 31 December of the current calendar year (eg. 2008 for Volume Four);

  • Your work falls within the dark fiction genres (horror, dark fantasy, or paranormal fiction); and

  • Your short story is less than 25,000 words or your essay is less than 10,000 words.


Please do not submit material appearing in the following publications as they are read by the editor:

  • Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine

  • Antipodean SF

  • Black: Australian Dark Culture magazine

  • Midnight Echo

  • Studies in Australian Weird Fiction

  • Ticonderoga Online

Additionally, the following publications have been read by the editor in 2009:

  • Grants Pass (Morrigan Books), Cthulhu's Dark Cults (Chaosium), and Macabre: A Journey Through Australia's Darkest Fears (Brimstone Press).
